Environmental Compliance Coordination

Water Quality
The food and beverage industry in the United States is estimated to use 5 billion gallons of water per day through various tasks including rinsing, cooking, cleaning, cooling, processing, and for incorporation into product. For some facilities, raw well water or potable city water may be sufficient. Others, such as beverage producers, may require additional treatment steps to achieve specific water quality standards. These steps may include reverse osmosis, oxidation, carbon filtration, and remineralization. From well design, to city interconnection, to advanced chemical and physical treatment, the JJG team has the experience and technical expertise to deliver the right solutions.
Wastewater Treatment
Wastewater from the food and beverage industry is often 10x stronger, and sometimes more than 100x stronger, than standard residential wastewater. Most public treatment facilities heavily regulate industrial wastewater discharge, usually requiring pre-treatment to residential strength prior to discharge. Our team is adept at negotiating favorable wastewater discharge terms with regulatory authorities and then designing compact, highly automated wastewater treatment facilities to meet discharge limits. For large or remote sites, our team is well versed in permitting and designing direct discharge treatment facilities. For existing facilities, tightening of discharge limits at the federal and state levels is trickling down to industrial users, requiring increased foresight and capital planning to implement treatment system improvements.
Recycled Water
With the cost of water and wastewater treatment continuing to outpace general cost escalations, and increased environmental scrutiny around water consumption, recycling wastewater for onsite reuse continues to be an attractive option to decrease O&M expenses and meet ESG goals. Although “toilet to tap” technology exists to recycle wastewater to a potable standard, most industrial sites elect to treat to a standard that allows reuse for cooling, boiler feed, irrigation, and sometimes toilet flushing. Incorporation of water recycling infrastructure early in project design allows facilities to recognize the benefits of recycling water onsite with minimal impact to capital and O&M costs.
Stormwater Management
Development of new sites requires meeting ever more stringent stormwater quantity and quality rules. Our team is well versed in cost effectively meeting current NPDES regulations that require flood control, conservation of water resources, and managing quality of receiving water bodies. We strive to seamlessly integrate stormwater management infrastructure into the site design with minimal use of valuable acreage.
Other Permitting & Compliance Tasks
Our team can handle other environmental tasks such as local planning, zoning, and building permits, Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans, Stormwater Pollution Prevent Plans (SWPPP), and Clean Air Act (CAA) permits.
Operations
Our team understands that environmental compliance tasks such as operating treatment facilities and compliance reporting can be a major time commitment for an operations team, districting them from core tasks in the production facility. JJG’s team has licensed water and wastewater operators who can provide anything from full time onsite operations staffing, to occasional operational guidance, to process optimization and compliance reporting.
